It’s that time of year! For family and friends, for festivities, fun, and food. Lot’s and lots of food.

Holiday food comes in all shapes and sizes. And for many of us, we are lucky enough for the problem of a bit too much delicious food over the holiday season.

And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that.

Agonizing about breaking a diet, eating too much, or eating the wrong things and be very restrictive and stressful. Especially this time of year.
I believe that factors such as stress contribute as much, if not more, to our health and wellness as does diet and exercise. The increase in cortisol in your body due to stress can contribute to weight gain. So quite literally stressing about food can cause you to gain weight. Crazy.

Eat the amazing food. But…. don’t feel bad about not eating it too

So what to do? Eat the Pavlova (for those of you saying ‘the what??’ Check it out here, it’s an Aussie Kiwi thing).

Or… don’t eat it. That’s the flip side of the holiday food festivities – there can be a lot of pressure to have a pretty busy schedule of events, many of which involve food. Don’t be afraid to pass on the foods that you don’t really want to eat out of a sense of obligation. If indulging on the food you would not normally eat during the holiday season makes you happy, then do it. But if that food is not serving you, then take a pass. It’s up to you, just remember this – it’s the season of joy, not the season of food-based stress.

What’s a win-win? Healthy wholefood festive options! Food can be tasty, sweet, or savoury without being something you completely regret later because it makes you feel physically terrible.
